Mackenzi Jackson applied to our foundation in 2023 and received the top sports scholarship.
Mackenzi told us last year that her goal was being selected again for the New Zealand team in 2024 for the Oceania championships in Australia and also the world championships in Spain!
She writes below how this scholarship impacted her:
“The Kate Moetaua Foundation Scholarship has helped me financially with the ability to attend extra training camps and, upgrade my protective gear. I feel my confidence has grown incredibly within the last few months having that extra time to train with experienced coaches and other NZ experienced athletes.
Having won a Scholarship through the Kate Moetaua Foundation has made a big impact on fulfilling my aspirations of continuing to represent New Zealand Internationally. It has allowed me a little more financial freedom to attend more training camps that I may not have been able to attend without the support. With moving to Canterbury University outside of my home region this extra financial support has allowed me to train at a higher level with an experienced National coach and also provide me with the opportunities for further coaching that I would not normally be able to access.“
