Lachlan Boniface applied to our foundation in 2023 and received a sports scholarship.
Lachlan told us last year that his goal was making the New Zealand U20s in 2024 and then the Ice Blacks after that!
He writes below how this scholarship impacted him:
“I was selected into the New Zealand u18 Ice Hockey Team where we travelled to Turkey for our division's world champs. While there I was granted the honour and privilege of being the captain of the New Zealand team for 2024. The scholarship allowed me to purchase New Ice Hockey equipment which in turn allowed me to train and then play with the most modern ice hockey equipment I could, elevating my game through this process.
The scholarship allowed me to purchase a new neck guard which is an extremely vital part of equipment for all ice hockey players and for this, I am extremely grateful.
I was also able to purchase a new Ice Hockey stick which I was playing with in Turkey and I still play with it now back here in New Zealand and I am planning to use it in the coming New Zealand Ice Hockey season as my primary Ice Hockey Stick. Playing with a top-of-the-line stick allowed me to shoot faster and pass harder than I ever have before and I found this massively elevated my game.”
