Caitlin Hollyer applied to our foundation in 2022 and received a sports scholarship.
She writes below how this scholarship impacted her:
"In November last year, I embarked on an adventure to Toronto to play hockey for 4 months where I got to play hockey almost every day, sometimes twice a day. The scholarship allowed me to purchase new hockey skates that have been able to withstand all of the hockey I was lucky enough to play and it also allowed me to further develop my hockey skills. It also helped me get to play for my country, as the captain, at the U18 Women’s Ice Hockey Worlds in Bulgaria. This two-week tournament allowed my confidence as a leader and as a player to develop immensely."
I will forever be grateful to the Kate Moetaua Foundation for all of the selfless work that is put into making dreams happen for so many young talented people in the Wakatipu! The Foundation certainly has made a lasting impact on my hockey career and in the development of myself as a person in the past six months which I am sure will continue. Throughout my recent experience overseas I have learnt a multitude of skills such as building relationships with people, working with and leading a large team to reach a common goal. I have also learnt when you should put yourself first or others and the importance of trust within a team."
